New York City will close another two miles of streets to cars on Thursday as part of an effort to give people more space to spread out during the coronavirus pandemic.
The city will work with local Business Improvement Districts to open up 1.5 miles of streets to pedestrians and cyclists in Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx. Another two-fifths of a mile will open in Queens.
Broadway will close to cars between 21st and 23rd Streets and between 24th and 28th Streets in Manhattan’s Flatiron district. Broadway will also close from 36th to 41st Street in the Garment District.
On Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Orchard Street and Ludlow Street will each close to cars between Delancey and Houston Streets. Both Stanton and Rivington Streets will close from Allen Street to Essex Street.
In downtown Brooklyn, Willoughby Street will close from Pearl Street to Lawrence Street. Lawrence Street will close from Fulton Street to Willoughby Street.
Willis Avenue will close between 147th and 148th Streets in the Bronx. And 148th Street will close from Willis Avenue to Bergen Avenue.
The city will also close 34th Avenue in Jackson Heights, Queens, from 69th Street to 77th Street.
On Saturday, the city closed more than seven miles of streets to cares in and around parks, opening up them to cyclists and pedestrians.
